2.2 Threads
Unified threads shall conform to the requirements of ASME Bl.l. For UNC and UNF threads, Class IA will 1w furnished unless otherwise specified. (lass 2A shall be applicable for SUN threads and at the manufacturer’s option for other series, and for siZes where (its,. IA is not applicable. Plated threads shall conform to ASMF. Hl.l, Class 3A high limit (basic) and the low limit requirement of the before-coated or plated thread class.
Acme threads shall meet the requirements of ASMF. Bl.5, Class 2G.
Table I contains the thread diameter and threads per inh combinations for Unified and Atme thread sizes considered standard.
2.3 Thread Acceptance Gaging
Unless otherwise specified 1w the purchaser. gaging for screw thread dimensional aLeptahility shall 1w in accordance with Gaging System 21 as specified in
ASMF. B 1.3.
2.4 Ends
The ends shall Lw of sufficient workmanship to allow for easy assembly with an appropriate mating nut.
2.5 Straightness
When required, straightness limits and the inspection technique to be used to evaluate straightness shall be agreed upon between the purchaser and 11w supplier.
2.6 Materials and Mechanical Requirements
The purchaser must specify the applicable specification for the threaded rod material. 11w material shall meet the chemical and mechanical properties of the applicable specification. Listed below are some of the primary material specifications for threaded rod. Other materials may be specified by the purchaser.
2.6.1 Steel Threaded Rod
2.6.1.1 Steel. The designation “steel” means lowcarbon steel meeting all of the material and mechanical requirements of ASTM A307, Grade A.
2.6.1.2 Grade 36. The designation “Grade 36” means steel material meeting all of the material and mechanical requirements of ASTM F1554,Grade 36.NOTE:A designation of“A36″or “ASTM A36″refers to rawmaterial only and is inappropriate as a fastener reference.Thepurchaser shall use the designation “ASTM A307A”orASTM F1554,Grade 36″ as required.
2.6.1.3 B7.The designation“B7” means a chro-mium molybdenum steel meeting all of the materialand mechanical requirements of ASTM A193, Grade B7.Other grades of steel for high-temperature applicationsmay be ordered to other grades in ASTM A193/A193M.
