ISO 10143:2019 pdf download.Carbonaceous materials for the production of aluminium – Calcined coke for Determination of the electrical resistivity of granules
1 Scope
This document specifies a method for the determination of the el ectrical resistivity of gra nul ar carbon (calcined or grap hiti zed) used in the manufacture of ca rbo n electrodes for the production of alum inium. The measurement of electrical resistivity assists in assessing the extent of coke calcination. The electr ical resistivity of the coke aggregate will influence the el ectrical resistivity of the coke electrodes made from it. In a more highly calcined coke will have a lower el ectrical resistivity if other factors, such as grain size, are sim ilar.

4 Principle
A test portion of the granular carbon is placed in a cyl ind rical holder which has electrica l contacts at the top and bottom. A fi xed pressure is applied to the test portion to ensure good elect rical contact and a fixed, constant direct current is applied. Th e voltage drop and the height of the column of granules are measured and the elect rical r esistivity is calculated.
5 Apparatus
Ordinary laboratory apparatus, plus the following:
5.1 Sampl e hold er and plunger , with removable base for cleaning as shown in
5.2 Length – measuring device , capable of movement of the compression plunger to± 0,1 mm.
