UL 482:2020 free download STANDARD FOR SAFETY Portable Sun/Heat Lamps
Scope
1.1 This Standard covers sun lamps, heat lamps and combination sun and heat lamps rated at not morethan 125 V.A sun lamp is intended for production of ultraviolet radiation for skin tanning.A heat lamp isintended for production of infrared radiation. A combination sun and heat lamp is intended for production ofboth ultraviolet and infrared radiation. In the text of this Standard, the term sun/heat lamp is intended tocover all types.
1.2 This Standard covers portable sun/heat lamps intended for use by nontechnically qualified personsin homes, sports facilities, health spas and similar establishments and intended for connection to a power-supply circuit by a flexible cord for use in accordance with the National Electrical Code, ANSINFPA 70.
1.3 This Standard does not cover lamps intended primarily to provide ilumination (although some visibleradiation may be produced during the operation of a sun/heat lamp).
1.4 This Standard does not cover sun or heat lamps intended for professional use. Professional uselamps are those for use by technically qualified persons in hospitals, nursing homes, medical care centers,clinics, medical offices, laboratories, and similar establishments for therapeutic purposes.The therapeuticlamps are covered by the requirements for medical and dental equipment.
1.5 Ultraviolet lamps intended for high intensity, short duration – 2 minute maximum first exposure timefor most sensitive skin – operation will be subject to an appropriate investigation for any additionalrequirements as are applicable to a lamp with this feature.
1.6 This Standard does not cover bulbs alone but complete appliances.
2Components
2.1Except as indicated in 2.2, a component of a product covered by this Standard shall comply with therequirements for that component. See AppendixA for a list of standards covering components generallyused in the products covered by this Standard.
2.2A component is not required to comply with a specific requirement that:
a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in theproduct covered by this standard, or
b)ls superseded by a requirement in this standard.
2.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions ofuse.
2.4Specific components are incomplete in construction features or restricted in performancecapabilities. Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such as certaintemperatures not exceeding specified limits, and shall be used only under those specific conditions.
3 Units of Measurement
3.1 Values stated without parentheses are the requirement. Values in parentheses are explanatory or approximate information.
3.2 Unless indicated otherwise all voltage and current values mentioned in this Standard are root-meansquare (rms).
